Letter from G. E. Calen in Philadelphia, PA, to Sarah Lowe [Low] dated April 3, 1863. In the letter, Calen notes the position of nurse at a hospital must be peculiar and unpleasant for a woman of refinement and that only the "motives of the purest patriotism" could have sent her there. He goes on to note Bowen or Rose will be the new surgeon and should make her position pleasant. He ends the letter by reminiscing on his time in ward G.
