Letter from Franklin Pierce in Concord, NH, to Edmund Burke, in Newport, NH, dated September 30, 1851. Burke, a former United States Representative from New Hampshire and United States Commissioner of Patents, worked as a lawyer in Newport. In the letter, Pierce writes that he was sorry to not see Burke at the State Committee the previous Saturday. He then lets Burke know that he received a visit from Edson Hill, who mentioned John L. Putnam of Cornish as a potential candidate for New Hampshire Governor. Pierce likes the idea, especially in relation to Councilor Ross of Hanover, but is curious what Burke thinks. He ends the letter sending his regards to Mrs. Burke.
