- Scope and Content:
- Josiah Bartlett's first address to the New Hampshire Senate and House of Representatives in Concord, NH, dated June 9, 1790. In the speech, Bartlett graciously accepts the position of President (Governor) of New Hampshire, congratulates the gentlement and fellow citizens on a prosperous state, and notes he is unable at this time to point out the important concerns that demand immediate attention as he has many papers from citizens and his predecessor to still look at, though he provides specific instances that our happiness and prosperity depend upon. Signed by Josiah Bartlett, the body of the document appears to be in the hand of Jeremiah Smith.
