Letter from Josiah Bartlett in Kingston, NH, to the New Hampshire delegates at Congress dated June 29, 1775. In the letter, Bartlett discusses the vote of the council to raise 2,000 men for the defense of the colonies, which are under the command of General Nathaniel Folsom. He goes on to discuss the monetary cost of these soldiers and having received no orders, has taken £10,500 lawful money of the colony of New Hampshire. This is the first issue of paper money by the colony, which would be repaid by a proportionate tax on polls and estates on each town. The letter also discusses recent events, including the seizure of vessels and the house arrest of John Fenton, a loyalist.
