Scope and Content:
The Brackett- Weeks Papers consist primarily of letters written to and from Adino Nye Brackett during the period from 1791 to 1829. Most of the letters in this series were sent between Bracket and his brother, Joseph Warren Brackett, his wife, Mary Elizabeth Brackett, and his cousin, John Wingate Weeks. A few of the letters and accounts in this collection are photocopies of material located in other collections, but most of the material is original. There are also five diaries in this collection. Two relate to school and public education matters, including essays (one set of entries was written on the verso of a reference letter), and the other three are personal in nature, documenting the thoughts of young Adino and Joseph Brackett. The letters and diaries also contain discussions of foreign relations, the New Hampshire legislature, and the presidential election of Andrew Jackson.
