Scope and Content:
Most of Pioneer Girls material in this collection was assembled by a leader of the group, Luella Phillips (Mrs. Fletcher Phillips), between around 1957 and 1968. She pasted the following into a large scrapbook: programs; photographs of the girls; greeting cards and letters she received from them; newspaper clippings about the club and activities of the members; clippings about marriages, graduations and other achievements of former members; leadership conferences she herself attended. Most of the photographs are identified, but the pages are in only rough chronological order (the book had fallen apart by the time it arrived at the New Hampshire Historical Society). Included in the collection though separate from the scrapbook are badges and certificates, a few minutes, a scribbled history of the club's origin at the True Memorial Baptist Church, some printed matter (pamphlets and magazines published by the national parent organization). Of particular interest in this collection are around 10 letters written by children to Mrs. Phillips between 1961 and 1963, usually when they were away at camp.
