Scope and Content:

Journal of artist William Frederick Paskell from December 5, 1883 to October 26, 1885, with several pages removed from the end. The journal contains entries most days detailing Paskell's work on art in a variety of mediums and techniques, including palette knife, oil, watercolor, ink, pencil, and charcoal. The entries discuss club meetings, his submissions to exhibits at the Boston Art Club, excerpts from newspapers on his work, and provide detail on his interactions with other artists. Some artists mentioned in this journal include H. O. Walker, Mr. Winslow, Mr. Sanderson, Mrs. Chadwick, J. Francis Murphy, DeBlois, and Enneking. He lists prices of artwork he has sold and comments on the difficulty of paying expenses through the sale of paintings, causing him to take jobs, such as one coloring prints. In August 1884, Paskell details a trip to Conway, NH, providing descriptions of his travel through the White Mountains and his related artwork. A year later, he visits Baboosic Lake in Amherst, NH. At the end of the volume is a loose list of "Water Color Drawings & Sketches," "Oil Paintings & Sketches," and "Pencil Drawings & Black and White" with their number, title/description, and size.
