Undated photographic print of the Republican Press Association building at the corner of Depot Street and Railroad Square in Concord, NH. The caption states, "Statesman and Monitor Building corner of Depot street and Railroad square Built in 1890. The Republican Press association was formed in the summer of 1871, its purpose being to acquire the Statesman, the Independent Democrat, the Daily Monitor, and the two printing establishments which had been somewhat bitter and unprofitable, the consolidated business was housed in the Statesman building at the corner of Depot and Main street. This building was built in 1867. Moved to this building in 1890. In the eighties the control of the Republican Press association passed to William E. Chandler, who had bought more than a majority of its stock. Mr Chandler exercised an active management of its affairs, together with a direction of the Statesman and Monitor, until July, 1898, when he disposed of his interest, which at that time was vey [very] large, to his son, William D. Chandler, and George H. Moses. The new owners then moved the newspaper plant from the Statesman building on Depot street to the Colonial block on South Main street, where the first issue took place July 5, 1898. The old Statesman building Main street on right of photograph now called the First National Bank building. The bank moved into this building in 1892."
