Photographic print of North Main Street in Concord, NH, taken in about 1865. The caption states, "North Main Street About 1830 Merrimack County Bank built in 1826 on the right of the photograph. The next house north was the Samuel Sparhawk in which was housed the Concord Upper Bank, until they moved into their new bank building built in1826. This house was built in 1785 by Major Daniel Livermore. The trees in front were set about the time the house was finished in 1786 or 1787. The south end of the house was nine inches over the line of the street, while the north end was exactly on the line. The reason assigned for that position was, that 'when Livermore was building this house he was courting one of Judge Walker's daughters, at the North end, and he wanted it skewed a little, so that he could look up that way. In 1806 the house was bought by the bank proprietors. In 1829 Rev. Bouton bought the house and land and he resided there twenty-six years, or until 1855. The white fence on the left was around the home of John West who died October 17, 1838. This house was razed in 1916 and the land given to the city by the will of Rank W. Rollins and his heirs and a fund for its supportby Katharine P. and Douglas Rollins trust income to be used for the care of West Garden. Capital, January 1, 1618 of $1,500.00 Washington street can be seen and next the Iron fence of the third North Church erected, 1842, burned June 29, 1873. North Church loss estimated at $15,000-insurance, about $4,600; $2,000 additional insurance was also held by the pew-holders."
