- This collection consists primarily of Civil War letters from George Trask Woodward, with a few letters from Cyrus G. Drew, all to Mary Clarinda McIntire of Lyndeborough, NH, dated 1862 to 1865. At the time of the first letter, Mary McIntire was 11 years old. George Woodward worked for Mary's father, Nathaniel T. McIntire, on his farm before enlisting. Both men served with the 13th New Hampshire Volunteers Regiment and George later served with the 30th U.S. Colored Infantry. In the letters, written primarily from various locations in Virginia, both George and Cyrus provide updates on battles, their daily activities, detailed descriptions on how they live in camp, and often inquire to Marys schooling. Also included is a birthday postcard copyrighted 1908 sent to Mrs. J. M. Gleason (Mary McIntire) in Mont Vernon, NH.
