There is some mention of the weather and travels to other locations, such as Garvins Falls and to Massachusetts, as well as notes on attending singing school, going to meetings, weddings, illnesses, births, deaths, and local news such as the new mail carrier and the sale of a farm. On March 31st, she writes that Willie Morgan has both the measles and typhoid fever, later noting he was buried on April 5th. On July 18th, Colby notes that her sister Jennie is doing well after the birth of her baby, which weighed nine and a half pounds and was born on the 16th. And on September 28th, she writes that it is her birthday and that she received a gold ring as a present. In the memorandum section at the back of the diary, Colby continues with a few entries for 1884 and a brief note on the colors of a brides' wardrobe.
