Letter from Charles Gordon Atherton in Washington, DC, to Henry H. Carroll dated February 8, 1842. This petition, which failed to pass, was to have Adams removed as chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Atherton goes on to discuss the Whig Party, noting "Thus is Whiggery fated, from day to day to give the lie to all its former protestations and professions."
