- Letter from J. William [Jared Warner Williams] and James M. Rix of the Democratic County Committee of Coos County in Lancaster, NH, to Marcus D. Johnson, Edward Sprague, and David Ross of Stratford, NH. Dated September 15, 1844, the letter asks the Stratford town committee to bring as many Democratic voters as possible for the upcoming presidential election and that they would like a tally of the voters' presidential preference. The authors discuss that voting for Birney would be throwing away votes and that Clay would impose his "corrupt system upon the country". They go on to articulate the importance of voting for Polk by appealing to the landscape and character of the people of Stratford.
