- Letter from Charles C. Shattuck at Fort Bayard in Washington, DC, to Frances M. Swett in Newport, NH, dated December 4, 1864. In the letter, Shattuck writes that they left from Fort Barnard, VA, last Sunday to Fort Gaines, DC, until Wednesday and finally arrived at Fort Bayard. He goes on to thank their friends at home for the Thanksgiving boxes and notes he and the other Newport soldiers enjoyed them very much.
