Letter from Albert Hoit in Hanover, NH, to his father Daniel Hoit in Sandwich, NH, dated July 1, 1828. In the letter, Albert notes he has returned from his business to Boston and though he was sick for a week, he is feeling better now. He goes on to describe his visit with Mr. Tappan, who inquired about Albert's desired profession. Mr. Tappan had advice regarding painting and artists, specifically that they are "not well paid - and that they uniformly died poor" and encouraged Albert to go into his father's business. Albert discusses his leaving college, his fondness for painting, and inquires about his father helping him pay off some debts.
