- Correspondence of Simon Merrill Sanborn of Chester, NH, regarding the illness and death of his son, Harrison Sanborn dated February 1862. Three of the letters were written by Charles W. Tandy, Simon Sanborn's nephew, from Brooklyn, NY. Tandy wrote that Harrison might recover from his illness on February 18, 1862, but the next day, February 19, 1862, Tandy wrote that Harrison had passed away. Tandy's third letter dated February 22, 1862, contains further information on Harrison's death and information on Harrison's remains and how Simon Sanborn can obtain Harrison's belongings. Another letter in the collection, dated February 18, 1862, is from another man in Harrison's regiment who wrote that Simon Sanborn should come see his son at the hospital in New York soon. The final item in the collection is a certificate from the City Inspector's Department dated February 19, 1862 giving permission to move Harrison Sanborn's body to Chester, NH for internment. It also lists the cause of death as exhaustion and typhoid fever.
