Scope and Content:
Three documents all dated 1773 related to the complaint of Peter Livius against John Wentworth, Governor of New Hampshire. The English Board of Trade ruled in favor of Peter Livius for the case he brought against Governor John Wentworth for how Wentworth redistributed land in New Hampshire and packed his council with family members. The case then went to King George III's Privy Council for Plantation Affairs, which exonerated Wentworth. One letter is dated August 26, 1773 and is to the Lord President of the Council. In the letter, the author writes that the Council differs from the Board of Trade and two Council members are writing a statement for review by the King. Another document is from the Court of St. James dated October 8, 1773 and contains the King's response to the Privy Council's recommendation that he is in agreement with the Council's decision to exonerate Wentworth. The third item is a List of Business for the Council dated October 17, 1773, which includes a report on the case and a holograph sidebar confirming the findings of the Privy Council.
