Scope and Content:
Letter from Mary Grimes to her sister Almira Grimes. Letter written from Troy, NH, October 26, 1859. Mary was happy to receive Almira's letter and hopes the family in Keene will keep warm. She provides various recommendations for which fires to light and when. Mary has made friends with local women in Troy and particularly likes Miss Bellows (the future Julia Grimes). She plans to invite Julia over to tea and introduce her to John, though she asks Almira not to tell their mother or Sarah about her plans yet. John saw Miss Bellows at a shop and had 'a good deal to say about her looks'. Mary is looking forward to her parents' upcoming visit and also hopes to see Sarah and her husband soon. She writes of the Baptist service she went to and is grateful not to have the spirit of rebellion in her. She asks Almira to pray it does not enter her heart. John is preparing to send some of Mary Louisa's things (a winter bonnet, a cameo pin and some rings) to the family in Keene. Mary does not think Almira need switch places with her yet.
