Scope and Content:

The collection primarily consists of incoming correspondence to William H. Yeaton, seaman aboard the steamer Kearsarge. The letters concern his assignments for duty, claims for back pay, as well as the settlement of "Aunt Rhode's" will in England. His papers also include his marriage certificate. Other family members represented in the collection include his daughter Alice Leigh Yeaton Lasell, his son-in-law Edward Lasell, his granddaughter Eleanor Lasell, and various ancestors. Edward Lasell's correspondence consists of letters concerning family genealogy and the continuation of William Yeaton's claim for back pay. The ancestors are represented by a deed for land in Exeter and two wills.
