Scope and Content:
One letter from Richard Waldron, dated: Portsmouth, March 31, 1742. Addressed to some unknown person, asking him to please help in getting the enclosed bill for extraordinary services to the governor and reams of paper used in the service of the Province paid. Waldron states that he had a letter from some of the committee, saying he would be paid as soon as he sent in the amount. He did as requested, but has yet to receive any money. Waldron says that the Province now owes him more than a thousand pounds and any help would be gratefully acknowledged. Richard Waldron III was appointed King's attorney in 1715, Clerk of the Council in 1717, and province secretary, judge of common pleas and member of the Council in 1730. In 1737, he was made Judge of Probate. But when Benning Wentworth became Governor in 1741, replacing Gov. Belcher, Waldron was soon stripped of all his offices and consequently spent the rest of his life trying to get Wentworth dismissed.
