Civil War letter from Charles Nutter near Strasburg to his cousin, dated September 20, 1864. In the letter, Nutter tells he is officially in the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 19th Corps, of the 14th New Hampshire Company E Volunteers. He goes on to apologize for his writing, but he is still shaken from the battles he has been in. He goes on to describe the battles, noting approximately how many of his company died, and discusses coming across hundreds of wounded and dying boys as they were moving to the next location. Nutter ends the letter by stating he hopes the letter "doesn't scare the children, but this is real war."
