- Description:
- Chapter 22 describes the homes and businesses located along Main Street. It describes the land designated for a highway and the buildings that were constructed close, or in some cases over, the line designating the appropriate width of the road. It also relays topographical challenges to the roads construction, including the steep hill to the east and wide brooks. It further follows the families that owned and resided in these buildings, mentioning the fact that most commercial establishments were located on the northern part of the main street near the meeting house. The chapter concludes with a description of a ball held to honor the ordination of Rev. Asa McFarland, the new town minister at the close of the eighteenth century. An index of names precedes the chapter.
