- M. Martha Jackson, Portsmouth, NH, 1774
An early settler in the village of Intervale in Conway, NH. Pendexter moved to Bartlett before 1790 where his family of 13 was recorded in the first national census.
In the early 1770's, he came from Portsmouth in the winter. He walked the eighty miles, hauling the household furniture on a sled, while his wife rode an old horse with a featherbed for a saddle. They suffered many hardships that first winter in their log cabin on the intervale (Conway, NH). Later they built a frame house in which their daughter Alice was born, but the freshets on the Saco (River) soon caused them to move to the upland and build the house which later became Pendexter Mansion (now Region House). A farmer as well as a carpenter by trade, Mr. Pendexter took an important part in the growth of the community and was an able director at house raisings.
