- Born in 1828 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and moved to New York at young age. Noted for being a meritorious engraver of portraits and in both line and stipple. Active in Boston during the 1850s, in New York City from 1870-1877 and Philadelphia from 1877-1879. In April of 1879 he suddenly abandoned his professor, sold all his possessions, left Philadelphia and was never heard from again. His fate, including the time and nature of his death, are unknown.
