1984.69 (clock), text from exhibition label, 1984: "... this clock was purchased as a presentation piece by Jacob Shute... in 1792. Having indentured himself to Ebenzer Eastman (1689-1748) in order to pay for his voyage from Ireland, Shute accompanied Eastman in the fall of 1727 to become one of the first settlers of Concord [N.H.]. As shown by his purchase of this expensive timekeeper, Shute rose from his humble beginnings to become a man of some prosperity."
