- Description:
- Most American historians interested in the 1777 Battle of Bennington have missed certain primary and secondary sources about the battle that were published in German both in Germany and North America. A report by an anonymous German officer, portions of which are reproduced here along with correspondence between General John Burgoyne and Lieutenant Colonel Friedrich Baum, is particularly important. He clearly saw the Vermont battle as a prelude to disaster, and informed his countrymen of this by describing the nature of the American Revolution.
