- Description:
- In 1770 the Portsmouth Town Meeting rejected resolutions recommending non-importation of British goods, but in December 1773 the Town Meeting voted to prevent the landing or sle of East India Company tea at Portsmouth. Support for radical measures then grew in other New Hampshire town meetings and the Assembly, until the attacks on Fort William and Mary demonstrated that the "Friends of Liberty" had built a revolutionary power structure in New Hampshrie through control and coordination of key institutions against the Royal executive.
