Description:
Jean Paul Selinger (1850-1909), a versatile Boston painter, and his artist wife, Emily Harris Selinger (1848-1927), opened a summer art studio in the Glen House at the foot of Mount Washington, in the mid-1880's. In 1893 the hotel burned down, and in 1894 the Selingers became the artists-in-residence and summer social leaders at the Crawford House until the 1920's. Their Boston studio was called an American equivalent of the French salon.
