Description:
Abel Hutchins (1763-1853) made brass clocks in Concord. After his house and shop burned on 25 November 1817, Hutchins built the 17-room Phenix Hotel, designed by Levi Brigham (1779-1826). For 37 years it was a political rendezvous and stage stop. This article reproduces the building contract, from the Abel Hutchins Papers in the New Hampshire Historical Society.
