"More than two hundred years ago, a cabinetmaker in Vermont made and gave a chest of drawers to his niece as a wedding present. The story of this dresser and the people connected to it, reveals a distinctly American story, from the early settling of New England to the eventual migration to the Midwest by subsequent generations of those first pioneers. The storytellers are women who have owned this 1812 bureau and carried it and penned their family histories as they joined the westward movement of American settlers. From Vermont to New Hampshire to Illinois and back to New England this bureau was relocated when families moved. The top drawer contained letters, notes, and bits of history".
