Description:
The traditional Turner interpretation of Jacksonian Democracy is still sound." Election figures in the 'New Hampshire Patriot' are correlated with almanac data on physiography, size and quality of farms, tax apportionment, denomination, and manufacturing. "Rural, poor, small, non-Congregational" towns "out of the mainstream of New Hampshire life" were strongest for Jackson. Sixteen towns in the Keene region were exceptional, influenced by political habit and accessibility to Massachusetts centers. "The poor textile workers...were more likely National Republican than Democratic." Contains Tables and map.
