Description:
The author examines the evolution in the way historians record and interpret history. The author cites the Adams Papers - a documented chronicle of the family over four generations - to show the value of such raw material. "One who reads these documents by and about John Adams sees an intenesely real human being. Nineteenth-century biographers and editors would have suppressed this kind of evidence. Was felt that a great man should never be allowed to be merely human."
