- Description:
- The article discusses gunpowder stolen from the British army at Fort William and Mary in New Castle, New Hampshire in 1774 before the American Revolutionary War. It examines the powder's subsequent removal to Durham, New Hampshire and its control by the New Hampshire Provincial Congress, Committee of Public Safety and Committee of Supplies. The author notes that the gunpowder was distributed to Conway, New Hampshire, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and to defenses at New Hampshire's Port of Piscataqua. He suggests that more than half of the powder remained in New Hampshire after the Battle of Bunker Hill.
