Description:
The call to the "earnest thinking men and women of New Hampshire" went out in newspapers all over the state. Signed by 128 people, many of whom were prominent in the Granite State's affairs, it announced a meeting for those who objected to a "democratic government [that] holds arbitrary and unjust sway over one half of its subjects." They were asked to meet at Eagle Hall in Concord on December 22 and 23, 1868, for a convention "to consider and act upon the political and civil rights woman, and organize for the efficient advocacy of woman suffrage." The well-attended meeting launched the New Hampshire Woman Suffrage Association (NHWSA), the first statewide organization in the Granite State dedicated to women's rights.
