- Description:
- The article notes that museum catalogs are an important means of providing information about an institution's collections and exhibits, and often serve as supplements to exhibits that provide new information about, and interpretation of, the subjects of the exhibit. Further, museum catalogs are the permanent record of an exhibit. With these aspects in mind, the article reviews three museum catalogs: The White Mountains : place and perceptions (Durham, N.H., 1980); All sorts of good sufficient cloth : linen-making in New England, 1640-1860 (North Andover, Mass., 1980); and Plain & elegant, rich & comment : documented New Hampshire furniture, 1750-1850 (Concord, N.H., 1979). He uses each to illustrate "the best features, worst defects, and related pitfalls of museum catalog production".
