- Description:
- The Dunlap family and other cabinetmakers inspired by them created some of the most distinctive furniture ever made in America. The merits of their work were noted in 1928, but the identity of the makers did not appear in print until 1937. Few pieces made before 1800 can be positively assigned to individual members of the Dunlap school, but since a 1978 exhibition, evidence has revealed the identity of two additional case pieces of the Dunlap type.
