- Description:
- In 1679, New Hampshire became a royal province, and acquired its first Great Seal Deputed, so called because it was used in place of the one Great Seal of the realm. The new seal was the first of a series of royal seals, changing with each sovereign, until relations with the British Crown were severed. The seals used in New Hampshire and the other colonies are probably the most interesting of the Great Seals Deputed, as they show the widest divergence from traditional patterns.
