- Description:
- Urban renewal and a subsequent development proposal prompted archaeological investigations of Portsmouth's Deer Street neighborhood during 1981-84. Concentrating on the 1750-1820 period, the archaeological project revealed that the neighborhood was very stable in its physical characteristics and residents, and that membership in the community relied heavily on family connections.
