Description:
More than 100 potters worked in New Hampshire in the 18th and 19th centuries. Records of their lives and work are scanty. A 1982 study of redware - a simple, utilitarian pottery - has helped to provide additional information, and has revealed the interdependence of history and archaeology in studying this subject. A thorough study of surviving evidence is necessary before all evidence of potter families and their cottage industry disappears.
