- Description:
- A 1982 law established state ownership of all historic resources on or from state-controlled land in New Hampshire. In 1983 a permit was issued for a survey of a wreck site at New Castle, near the mouth of the Piscataqua River. In 1984 a permit was issued for the survey of a steamboat wreck in Newfound Lake. Thus began the first systematic inspections of underwater sites in New Hampshire. The 1982 act, and the lessons to be learned from these sites could be the first steps toward developing a programmatic approach to underwater historical resources in the state.
