Description:
Between 1768 and 1775, John Wentworth, the last royal governor of New Hampshire, developed an extensive country estate in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. The core of the estate is now part of Wentworth State Forest. Recent archaeological investigations and landscape studies have begun to provide evidence of the lavishness of the estate and of Wentworth's lifestyle. The estate, in extent and design, was unequaled in New England and was a catalyst for development of the interior of New Hampshire.
