- Description:
- The creation of the Civilian Conservation Corps was one of a number of steps taken by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his first term in office to deal with the depression of the 1930's. The Corps established 28 camps in New Hampshire between 1933 and 1942 and employed some 20,000 boys and men. They planted more than two billion trees and spent 6.5 million man-days fighting forest fires. The state's economy and ecology shared richly in these benefits.
