- Description:
- The Lyndeborough Glass Company flourished initially after its incorporation in 1866 because a substantial vein of quartz at Lyndeborough enabled it to respond to a growing demand for light or aqua-colored bottles. At its peak Lyndeborough bottles were marketed from Canada to Augusta, Georgia. By the mid-1870's, however, rising costs caused a decline in profits, and competition from glasshouses in the Midwest fueled with natural gas eventually forced the Lyndeborough Glass Company out of business in 1888.
