- Description:
- Edward Hill painted New Hampshire more diligently and sympathetically than any other painter, however his brother Thomas, renowned painter of Yosemite, was better known and more successful, reflecting the value Americans assigned to the California Sierra over New Hampshire's White Mountains. Edward's style reflected changing attitudes to the White Mountains. Edward's landscapes were romantic when the region was perceived as wild and remote. Then they became more serene and factual as the area became a fashionable tourist area.
