- Description:
- Sixty-seven surviving buildings in Manchester, New Hampshire, comprise the most intact and comprehensive collection of 19th-century industrial housing in New England, and perhaps in the United States. The Amoskeag Manufacturing Corporation, once the largest textile manufacturer in the world, erected these units between 1838 and 1916 for its employees. Despite the demolition of many of the industrial buildings in the millyard in the 1960's-70's, the housing retains an integrity of design and urban planning on a scale unknown elsewhere in New England.
