- Description:
- Lempster, New Hampshire, has sustained a public library since 1892, when one was established in response to a statewide public library movement. Before 1892 Lempster had a social library, a private library which only members could use. Members of the Universalist community in Lempster played a considerable role in the establishment and operation of the town's library. Universalists served as trustees of the library for much of the period from 1900 to 1948, and the library has been located in the former Universalist chapel since 1965.
