- Description:
- The early history of the Page Belting Company of Concord illustrates how one New Hampshire business adopted and applied technological innovation. The Page Company began manufacturing power transmission belting in 1868. Such belts provided nearly all motion and energy for industrial machines until well into the 20th century. The Page Company picked up business and new ideas by exhibiting its products at major expositions in Philadelphia in 1876 and Chicago in 1893. In the 1890's the company was instrumental in establishing New Hampshire's first industrial electrical energy system. The Page Company grew steadily in the late 19th century. By 1900 it employed about two hundred people and made about one million pounds of belting a year.
