Description:
In the heyday of New Hampshire's White Mountain resort hotels, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, hotel clients could purchase a variety of souvenirs, ranging from inexpensive china to wooden boxes, photographs, and books. Interest in inexpensive china items developed in the 1870's and peaked in the 1890's. Photographs of White Mountain scenes were also popular, as were guidebooks. Early china items were distinctive and highly prized. After World War I, when the White Mountains became more accessible to visitors with different tastes, the quality of souvenirs declined rapidly.
