- Description:
- Printed 19th-century depictions of the White Mountains of New Hampshire are numerous, ranging from small scenes in advertisements to reproductions in literary works. Printed images of the White Mountains appeared as early as 1816. In the second half of the 19th century prints in books and periodicals reached a huge audience. These commercially issued prints turned academic work into popular art. The publication of books, maps, and prints depicting the White Mountains played a major role in promoting the area to the American tourist.
