The author explains that Ebenezer Webster, a soldier who had fought during the French and Indian wars, was granted 225 acres west of the Merrimack River in 1768. When he died in 1806, the land was passed on to his sons Ezekiel and Daniel. Daniel hired farm managers, acquired abutting land, and in 1847 a railroad was constructed through the property.
